Welcome to our personal Man & Woman of the Year campaign page!

THE MISSION OF THE LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY:
Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

- Every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer
- Every 9 minutes someones loses a battle with a blood cancer
- Leukemia is the leading cancer diagnosed in children and young adults under the age of 20
- Leukemia affects ten times as many adults as children
- Nearly 2700 new case of blood cancer are diagnosed each year in Maryland
- Newly 1.2 million Americans are living with, or in remission from blood cancer
What is LLS and why is this campaign so important?
Last year, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society funded over $90 million in blood research. They are currently able to fund 9 researchers right here in Maryland and 28 projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. In addition to the research, they offer First Connection (a peer-to-peer support program), financial assistance to patients through the Patient Aid Program; family support groups: and an advocacy network for patients and their families in our very own region.
LLS continues to see tremendous progress in the way blood cancers are treated, including drug targeted therapy. The reason for the growth of our campaign and the improved treatments is the same; is is the exceptional support of caring community supporters through this campaign. The campaign also generates awareness both locally and nationally through press releases and exposure in print advertisements.Â
How are your dollars used:
To date LLS has invested over $1 billion to advance cancer therapies and save lives. They promise to continue to support research through our innovative and integrated funding programs, until every patient has a safe and effective therapy.
